Research Scientist at Ozette Technologies

Portrait of Fritz Lekschas

Fritz is a Ph.D. candidate in computer science at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. His research focuses on the development of scalable visual exploration systems for analyzing scientific data.

Fritz uses visualization as the primary means of interacting with data, and human-centered ML methods to guide decision making at scale. As part of NIH's 4D Nucleome program, Fritz applied his work to epigenomics to help scientists analyze and decipher genome folding. As a result of extensive collaborations with domain experts, his open-source systems are used by many research labs worldwide. His research has also won several awards, including a Siebel Scholars award, the Best Paper Award at the 2020 EuroVis Conference, and a Best Paper Honorable Mention Award at the 2020 IEEE Visualization Conference (InfoVis).

Prior to joining the doctoral program, Fritz visited Harvard Medical School as a post-graduate research fellow to work with Nils Gehlenborg, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Informatics, and Peter J. Park, Professor of Biomedical Informatics, on ontology-guided exploration of biomedical data repositories for his master's thesis. He earned his bachelor’s and master of science degrees in bioinformatics from the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany.
